Anchors away with bearkats, nautical princes and more.

Hey guys I am a little bit late to the punch with this post but like the saying goes, better late than never?

So what's this exciting news that I've been keeping from you? Well, Paul Starling and Bearkat (yours truly) have teamed up for a fun summer side project called Anchor&Bear

It's a little bit nautical it's a little bit gypsy folk and dare I say it's a little bit rock n roll! So head on over to the bandcamp and let me know what you think! All that we make off these songs is going directly in support of the Bearkat tour this June! More info on that to come soon! Mr. Paul Starling is coming along for that as well! He's backing me up on drums and it's really all coming together so well...I'm unbelievably anxious to bring to a city near you! Maybe I'll sneak a preview video soon!

Until next time!
Bearkat.

Back on the Road

After all those promises to write more I have found myself falling behind. Sometimes, I am just writing (music) without a feeling or need to be creative in any other medium, such as this one. Yet, with the purchase of my new fancy camera, and by fancy I mean one that isn't from 1999, I have decided to vlog my travels for you. I end up doing a lot of stupid things on the road, especially by myself and I thought there may be a chance you guys would be into that. I'll be picking up one extra person to travel with me after SXSW is all said and done. I'm sure company will lend itself well to entertaining vlog post. We'll be stopping at the Grand Canyon. After all these trips around the country I still haven't seen it.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Here is a vlog from this morning, Day 1. It's in my drive way. I'll also leave you with a video from The Black Keys, as they were the reason I hopped on 70 E instead of 70 W. The grooves, the grooves had my mind on hold.

"Love Hurts"

So, I have been obsessed with this song for about a week. I thought I would get it out of my system and post several different covers.  It was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant (maybe just Boudleaux but I'm not sure), a country music husband and wife team who wrote several hits, many performed by the Everly Brothers. "All I have to do is dream" and "Bye Bye Love" for example.
(Even though this was written in my own words, I would have an 8th grade education if it weren't for Wikipedia).

So, of course Roy Orbison really wails on this song. It might still be my favorite version. His voice really can do no wrong and the way he sings "A-he-any heart" blows me away every time. However, I thought I would see what you thought. What's your favorite version?

Up first, The Everly Brothers
(I'm sort of falling hard for this one too.)

Next, my man Roy

(Nope, still my favorite.)

Gram Parsons and Emmylou

ELVIS COSTELLO and Emmylou
This might be one of my favorite videos for two reasons
1. Elvis' Jacket. ITS so GOOD
2. How creepy David Letterman is with Emmylou at the end.

Finally Norah Jones and Keith Richards
When Norah comes in its amazing.

Sorry Nazareth, you didn't make the cut I'm afraid.

Which one do you choose?
